Hellooooo world :)

I've priced up 4 gauges to mount on the dash of the SS… These are:

* Mechanical Oil Pressure
* Mechanical Oil Temp
* Mechanical Water Temp
* Mechanical AFR

I had the option to go electric also but the prices were a bit spastic. For the water temp it was a heap cheaper but the other ones were more expensive.

Has anyone dealt with fitting mechanical gauges to a late model commodore before? How much pain and hassle is it? Should I attempt it myself or take it to a shop? (Shane fits gauges and stereos at good prices)

Cheers all!

Dan

Andy (VHSLX) fitted a couple to his VY that he had. Wasn't too bad hey, bit of a pain in the ass but we got them in. Water temp and Oil pressure I think they were?? Can't remember, that was a V6 but, not sure how much more difficult it would be with the LS1

Ive recently done a custom dash for my missus vh that we have dropped

speco mech fuel gauge  2''
speco mech water 25/8''
speco mech oil 25/8''
speco mech volt 2''

with nava led engine, indercater and hibeam lights

it was easy the hardest bit was cuttin/die grinding all the holes into the alloy plate

Go for it mate.

I ended up gettin Autometer elect oil pressure and water temp with mech fuel pressure.
Probably going to mount them on the dash now for visibility but may still put them outside the car.. Easier to run them outside only because the mech fuel pressure line can run off the fuel press reg. Not that keen to run a fuel line inside the car, especially having to get the braid made up etc.

i heard that its illegal to have mechanical gauges in your car for that reason! live fuel pressure or oil pressure in the cab.

Yeah I'd say the rule is more dependant on the line you're using. IE braided would be fine, rubber probably not so much..
